Wisconsin is one among the fifty states in the United States of America which have been very badly affected with h1n1 virus in the year 2009. The total population of Wisconsin is about 5,627,967. The geographical relation of swine flu and Wisconsin as presented by the state health service department seemed to be very critical. In the starting of flu season the number of confirmed cases of swine flu were 414 in Wisconsin as reported by the state department of health services. In the month of April and may the number of swine flu cases reached up to 6031 in this state alone and was estimated to increase further till the end of the year. The number of swine flu deaths had been recorded to be four which likely to increase till the end of the year. With the end of flu season it was assumed that the effects of swine flu will also end but till now swine flu has not narrowed it’s operational area. As there is no change in the affects of swine flu so it is important that the people of Wisconsin should be alert by this flu epidemic and try not to fall prey to it and increase the number of deaths as well as number of swine flu cases in their state.

Swine flu and Wisconsin state health services

The department of health services in Wisconsin worked together with the center for disease control and prevention to examine the swine flu cases in the whole state and found no other reported case of swine flu there. People of Wisconsin who visited to Mexico, Canada or other places of united states during the flu epidemics were asked to contact to their doctors, if noticing any flu like symptoms such as runny nose, sore throat, cough, sneeze, fever, tiredness and pains in muscle or even suffering from vomiting and diarrhea, as these places were at high risks of swine flu. Anyone visiting to these places could be infected with the h1n1 virus.

The Wisconsin department of health services also conducted routine checkup of influenza in the people of the state. This was done as a preventive measure against swine flu virus. The local health offices, clinics and hospitals were also requested to increase their level of observation for influenza among the people. Those who were found to be suffering from even common flu were put under observation for three days as the swine flu virus takes three days to show the symptoms in human body. People were also requested to follow all the precautionary measures suggested by the health officials to restrict the swine flu virus from spreading. The citizens were also asked to avoid traveling to the places, where the swine flu was at its peak.

The Wisconsin health department also made available h1n1 vaccine for their people. People were told to get this h1n1 vaccine from various sources along with medicine stores, health departments, community vaccinators, drug distributors etc.

At present the Wisconsin state laboratory of hygiene, Milwaukee health department laboratory and the Midwest respiratory virus program in Milwaukee are confirming swine flu cases themselves, instead of sending the sample to the federal centers for disease control and prevention for the fast identification of the virus.
